Building Barn Stalls + Other Goat Related Things!

WHO LET THE GOATS OUT?! Honestly, these little guys are space artists and need a very special infrastructure to be contained and kept out of certain areas (for their safety and ours!) It’s Spring on our new farm in Nashville which means it’s time for BABIES aka kids. We raise dwarf milk goats and Brenda Lee is about ready to Kid, or have babies any minute now. With that, it’s time to prep her kidding stall in the barn. I need to build a gated area where Brenda and her babies will be safe from the elements, accidents, and other animals while the babies grow strong.

We made this DIY goat fence almost entirely from reclaimed and recycled materials. We also used hardware brought from our old farm in Seattle and some found around the barn here in Nashville! Everything in this simple homesteading barn improvement project, aside from the 4x4 and two 2x4s used, was found free of charge. The gate was an old bed frame we found in the barn and disassembled. The latch came from the barn’s bathroom, the hinges were found in an old bucket, and the hog fence panel was left over scraps from our heavy use area!
